Weather Update
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at the bright and early hour of 5:30 am on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
Grab your umbrellas, folks, because the whole of the Fiji group is in for a wet and wild ride! Yes, a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is in full effect. If you’re looking for sunshine, you might want to go on a vacation to a desert, because a persistent trough of low pressure is here to sprinkle some drama over our lovely islands.
Forecast for today, before the clock strikes midnight: Expect a romantic rendezvous with rain—occasional and heavy, with a few thunderstorms crashing the party, especially in the northern parts of Vanua Levu and the interior, western, and northern regions of Viti Levu. So, if you’re in Bua-Lekutu-Dreketi-Seaqaqa-Labasa-Namuka-Udu Point, Momi-Nadi-Lautoka-Ba-Ra, Yasawa, or Mamanuca groups, consider this your gentle reminder to wear waterproof shoes and a smile!
And if you think you’re safe elsewhere, think again! Occasional rain and the usual suspects—thunderstorms—are ready to make an appearance, most likely in the afternoon or evening, aiming for those dramatic heavy falls that could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas. So perhaps skip that picturesque picnic by the river today!
As for the winds, expect some moderate northwest to northeast breezes, fresh at times (maybe enough to blow your hat away!). Seas will be moderately rough, which sounds like a great excuse to skip the surfing lesson and just enjoy a cozy day indoors.
Now, what can you expect for Monday? Well, guess what? More occasional rain, heavy at times, along with those ever-friendly thunderstorms. All across the board, persistent heavy falls might just turn low-lying areas into mini lakes.
