Buckle up, folks! We’ve got a heavy rain alert for the entire Fiji group, so get your umbrellas ready and consider investing in some stylish rain boots. For all the nitty-gritty details of the Heavy Rain Alert, you can check out the official website, but remember, the best advice is to stay dry!
Situation: A rather sluggish trough of low pressure has decided to set up camp over Fiji and is in no hurry to leave. By Thursday, it might pack its bags and drift north, but until then, we’re looking at some seriously moist weather courtesy of southeast to southwest winds.
Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Expect occasional rain – some of it heavy enough to make you think about building an ark – plus a few thunderstorms ready to drop by uninvited over Vanua Levu and the northern Lau group. Keep an eye out for localized downpours in Kadavu, the rest of the Lau group, and Lomaiviti, as well as the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu (hello, Sigatoka through Navua, reaching all the way to Suva and Tailevu North). Elsewhere, you’ll find partly cloudy skies with the possibility of afternoon or evening showers and those pesky thunderstorms that think they’re comedians with their heavy downpours. Just a heads-up, localized heavy falls could lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas – in other words, watch where you’re stepping!
Winds will be moderate, and the seas might be feeling a little feisty.
Looking ahead to Thursday: If you thought today was wet, hold on to your hats! We’ll see ongoing rain – likely heavy at times – and more thunderstorms over Vanua Levu and northern Lau, easing into mere showers by the day’s end. The same goes for Kadavu and surrounding areas, with cloudy spells and the threat of isolated thunderstorms throwing a wet blanket over your plans. Everywhere else? A bit of clouds, a bit of rain, and a sprinkle of thunderstorms to keep things interesting.
Now, for the detailed local weather:
Navua / Suva / Nausori: Expect occasional downpours and a few fiery thunderstorms. Just a note – localized heavy falls may cause flash flooding, so watch your step!
Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Mostly partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon or evening showers. Thunderstorms might crash the party too.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms will likely make an appearance. Stay on your toes for localized flooding!
Tavua/ Rakiraki: It’s a mix of partly cloudy skies with a side of afternoon showers and a chance of thunder.
Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Partly cloudy with an evening possibility of showers and a little thunder to spice things up.
Labasa: Should experience some occasional rains and thunderstorms, so make sure your rain gear is ready!
Savusavu: The forecast is looking similar – occasional rain with a few boomers in the mix.
Lau/ Lomaiviti: Expect showers and some thunder over the northern Lau group, plus a bit of everything else we mentioned!
Kadavu: Rain, thunderstorms, and potential flash flooding are still part of the deal.
Rotuma: A robust wind warning is in effect, adding a little drama to the rain-soaked collage of weather. Strong winds are expected – stay safe out there!
Remember, all this pizazz in the weather means you might have to rethink those outdoor plans. Stay tuned, stay dry, and maybe cuddle up with a good book instead!
