Nuffield Health Centre experienced a brief disruption of services today after a patient was assessed as a suspected case of meningococcal disease, according to health authorities. In response to the situation, Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa announced that standard safety protocols were implemented while staff managed the case.

“The health centre has now reopened with full services, and the patient is receiving care while test results are pending,” Mr. Ravunawa confirmed. He emphasized that while meningococcal disease is rare in Fiji, immediate treatment is crucial due to its potentially serious nature.

Mr. Ravunawa urged the public to seek medical attention immediately if symptoms such as sudden fever, severe headache, vomiting, stiff neck, or a rash arise in themselves or a family member. He also advised practicing good hygiene and avoiding the sharing of drinks or utensils to help mitigate the risk of transmission.

The Health Ministry expressed gratitude to the public for their understanding and cooperation during the precautionary measures. This incident serves as a reminder for communities to remain vigilant about health risks and to prioritize hygiene practices, ultimately fostering a healthier environment for all.
