This marks a significant occasion for Fiji, as it will be the first time the country enters the U17 competition. William Peter, the interim chief operating officer of Basketball Fiji, expressed confidence in the preparations, noting that the boys’ team has already been finalized, while the girls’ team will be announced following their final trials this week.

Peter highlighted the positive progress of the teams, stating, “Teams’ preparations have been going well. We have named the boys’ team. Girls Team will be announced this week following their final trials.” A total of six countries will be participating in the tournament, making for a competitive atmosphere. Fiji’s primary objective is not only to compete in all matches but also to showcase their talent on an international stage.

Acknowledging the challenges ahead, Peter emphasized the invaluable experience young athletes will gain from this competition. “We know the competition will be tough, and we will be ready to compete,” he affirmed, reinforcing the resolve of the entire team as they gear up for this landmark event.

In an effort to bolster support for the young athletes, Peter is rallying the public to show their encouragement as the team heads to Samoa. “We appeal to the public to support and get behind our young athletes as we prepare to represent the nation in Samoa,” he stated, highlighting the importance of community backing in fostering a strong sporting culture.
