In an inspiring effort to support fellow athletes, Pacific Games gold medallist Deborah Bulai is actively raising funds to acquire essential sporting equipment for aspiring hammer throwers in Fiji. After her recent victory at the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands, where she secured gold for Fiji, Bulai has shifted her focus to mentoring the next generation of talent in this demanding sport.

Having spent time coaching emerging athletes in Fiji prior to returning to the United States, Bulai has witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by national-level competitors. She highlights that financial limitations and a lack of resources pose significant barriers to success in track and field, a sport often viewed as underfunded. Many talented athletes struggle to sustain their training, as self-funding becomes necessary, forcing them to balance their athletic aspirations with the responsibilities of adulthood, including full-time jobs and bills.

To address these challenges, Bulai has launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising money specifically for hammer throwers in Fiji. She firmly believes that with adequate support and quality equipment, Fijian athletes could rise to compete on the world stage, showcasing their undeniable potential.

Bulai’s initiative not only shines a light on the struggles of Fijian athletes but also underscores a hopeful vision for the future of sport in the region. With community backing and investment, there’s a promising opportunity for Fijian talent to flourish and achieve their dreams.
