The Fiji Gujarati Sports Association is set to host its Inter-District Championship (IDC) this weekend at the HFC Stadium in Suva. The tournament, taking place from April 29 to May 1, 2025, features eight teams competing, including one team from New Zealand, called United. A total of 160 players are registered to participate, comprising 91 overseas-based and 69 players from Fiji.
The IDC is a key event in the football calendar, but the FGSA has also embraced a broader spectrum of sports activities. They have organized competitions in netball, volleyball, futsal, 7-aside football, badminton, and squash. Recently, the association has made strides in promoting female participation, which has seen encouraging progress.
Additionally, the FGSA will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a Celebration Night on May 11, 2025, at Kshatriya Hall, Des Voux Road, Suva. This celebration aims to honor the association’s long-standing history with performances by members of the Gujarati community.
With the tournament around the corner, expectations are high for exciting matches that will showcase local talent and foster a sense of community among participants and spectators alike. Such events not only highlight the love for sports but also bring together diverse groups, enhancing camaraderie and local pride.
