The Fiji Government Services Roadshow has made significant strides in enhancing its engagement with the Fijian community in Australia by delivering essential government services directly to the diaspora. The initiative, spearheaded by the Fiji High Commission in Canberra alongside key government ministries and agencies, commenced on September 25, 2025, in Uluru—a culturally prominent location in Australia.
During this historic visit, Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia, His Excellency Ajay Amrit, notably became the first Fijian Head of Mission to touch down in the Barkly region. This milestone reflects Fiji’s commitment to maintaining strong connections with its expatriate communities. Amrit was warmly welcomed by the Barkly locals, expressing gratitude for their hospitality and highlighting the vibrant presence of Fijians in the area. The high commissioner conveyed pride in their contributions to the local community, showcasing the resilience and unity of Fijian people abroad.
The Roadshow’s activities included discussions on various economic opportunities, particularly in trade and investment, aiming to cultivate closer business collaborations between Fijians in Australia and their homeland. Among the visiting delegation, Jone Maritino Nemani, Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, engaged with PALM workers, acknowledging their hard work and the local support they receive.
Following the Uluru launch, the Roadshow continued its journey through Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, and various regions in Victoria and Queensland. During this phase, the Fijian diaspora gained access to vital services such as consular assistance, voter registration, and Vola ni Kawa Bula (VKB) enrolment. The Fiji Day celebrations in Brisbane and Sydney attracted thousands, with Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officiating at the Sydney festivities, further emphasizing the importance of community connections.
This initiative not only enhances the accessibility of government services for Fijians living abroad but also signifies a broader commitment from the Fijian government to maintain strong ties with its citizens. It echoes similar successful efforts previously exercised in places such as the UK, solidifying the ethos that distance does not diminish the bonds between Fijians and their homeland.
