Sixty participants are set to compete in the Swire Shipping 42nd Fiji Senior Golf Open, kicking off today at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa.
This three-day event is expected to generate excitement, with several international players joining the competition. According to Susan Yee, the association’s secretary, there is a strong turnout anticipated among seniors aged 55 and older for this year’s tournament.
“The competition will introduce new champions across all three categories, as the defending champions from last year will not be taking part,” Yee stated.
Defending men’s champion PC Goundar from Australia, ladies champion Lyndall Fisher, and over-70’s champion Ishwar Nand will all be absent this year. This opens the door for past winners such as RN Goundar, Robert Li, Alipate Vosaicake, Marica Margetts, and Agnes Fong Toy to attempt to reclaim their titles.
In the over-70 category, Thiphait Hussein is considered a strong contender for the Akbar trophy, given his impressive performances in recent tournaments.
The event will run for three days and will conclude on Thursday with a prize-giving ceremony and dinner at Yue Lai Restaurant in Flagstaff.
The Swire Shipping 42nd Fiji Senior Golf Open is anticipated to be a competitive showcase for all participants vying for the prestigious trophies.
