The Fiji Golf Club marked the beginning of the new year with a successful Stableford event at the Vatuwaqa Golf Course yesterday. The competition attracted a vibrant turnout of 49 players who seized the opportunity to showcase their golfing skills while reveling in the splendid weather.

Long-time member George Nacewa, who has been playing golf for four years, shared his reflections on the event, highlighting the pristine condition of the course and the favorable playing environment. Nacewa emphasized the physical fitness aspect of golf, expressing how much he enjoys the sport beyond its competitive nature.

“This is my fourth year playing golf. I got into it primarily for the physical activity. Besides other sports, I find great joy in playing,” he remarked. Nacewa noted that golf is often misperceived as an exclusive sport for the affluent, stating that it actually offers a welcoming community where people from various backgrounds can connect and enjoy themselves.

As the club looks forward to a new season, Nacewa expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming competitions. He commended fellow members for their active participation and sportsmanship, predicting a thrilling and competitive year ahead. In addition, he praised the youth program launched by the Fiji Golf Club, acknowledging the significance of cultivating young talent for the club’s future success.

“It’s wonderful to see Fiji Golf Club members participating and fostering strong competition. This year, we have numerous competitions lined up, and we eagerly anticipate them,” Nacewa shared.

The optimism and enthusiasm evident among club members, alongside the positive initiatives like the youth program, suggest a bright future for golf in Fiji as the community continues to unite through this beloved sport.
