ROSIE Travel Group has achieved a remarkable milestone in sustainable tourism with the introduction of Fiji’s first fleet of electric tourist coaches, marking a transformative step toward eco-friendly travel in the region. The $1.5 million investment aligns with the Fijian Government’s National Sustainable Tourism Framework and showcases the company’s commitment to addressing climate change through collaborative efforts with both private sector partners and environmentally conscious travelers.

During the launch event in Denarau, Nadi, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Viliame Gavoka spoke about the significant impact of these electric coaches, which convert the abundant Fijian sun into a reliable source of clean, renewable energy. Gavoka noted that each kilometer traveled in these solar-powered vehicles contributes positively to the environment, revitalizing Fiji’s natural landscape and economy.

“What Rosie Travel Group has achieved here is more than a technological breakthrough,” said Gavoka. “It is a challenge to every tourism operator and stakeholder in our industry to do better.” This exemplifies Rosie Travel Group’s role not only as a leader in inbound tourism but also as a pioneer in sustainable practices across Fiji and the broader Pacific region.

The journey toward electric vehicles for Rosie Travel Group began three years ago, led by General Manager Eroni Puamau, who emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship for a family-owned business. The company partnered with China’s Bonluck Bus & Coach Group to deliver advanced electric coaches featuring cutting-edge battery technology, luxurious interiors, and a 300-kilometer range. These coaches are designed to enhance the travel experience while minimizing carbon emissions.

Rosie Travel Group’s Managing Director Tony Whitton highlighted the significance of this investment, as it supports the transfer solutions for over 200,000 international visitors each year. By embracing electric vehicle technology alongside Fiji’s solar energy potential, the company aims to significantly lower its carbon footprint while expanding service offerings to various sectors, including conferences, luxury private jets, and cruise ships.

With this investment and commitment to sustainability, Rosie Travel Group sets a positive tone for the future of tourism in Fiji, inspiring other companies within the industry to prioritize environmentally friendly practices. This collective movement towards electric mobility not only positions Fiji as an attractive eco-friendly travel destination but also contributes to a thriving sustainable tourism sector in the region.

This evolution in transportation reflects a broader trend across Fiji, where other companies, such as TEWAKA and Fiji Airports, are also investing in electric vehicles and renewable energy solutions. These parallel efforts highlight a growing collective commitment to promoting sustainability, ensuring that Fiji remains a leading destination for eco-conscious travelers. The focus on electric mobility and solar power could pave the way for a greener tourism future, fostering an environment where both the economy and nature can thrive together.
