Fiji Goes Digital: A New Era of Transformation Awaits

A recent report titled “The State of Artificial Intelligence in the Pacific Islands,” published by the AI Asia Pacific Institute in Singapore, reveals that 85.2 percent of Fiji’s population is online. In December 2023, the Fijian Government’s Cabinet approved the creation of a National Digital Strategy.

The Cabinet noted that this strategy aims to establish a coordinated approach to enhance digital technology, driving both economic growth and sustainable development. It is expected to provide essential policy clarity to encourage innovation and boost private sector investments.

The National Digital Strategy will be paired with an Action Plan that further details the thematic areas highlighted in the strategy. Additionally, the report highlights Fiji’s DigitalFIJI, also known as the Digital Government Transformation (DGT) Program, which is a four-year initiative led by the Fijian Government. This program focuses on implementing various government applications, improving overall ICT infrastructure, and building capabilities for digital transformation within the government.
