The Fijian Government has pledged $1.3 million to help host the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Suva. This announcement was made by Permanent Secretary Meli Nacuva during the official opening ceremony at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

The event is a major milestone for Fiji, with participation from leading weightlifting nations such as India, England, Malaysia, Singapore, Wales, Canada, and Sri Lanka. Over 210 participants from 25 countries are expected to compete in a week of intense action at the Vodafone Arena.

Nacuva highlighted the core values of discipline, perseverance, and determination that weightlifting promotes and encouraged the Fijian community to support the athletes. He also expressed gratitude to all athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and sponsors for their commitment to ensuring the success of the event.
