The Fijian Government has allocated $1.3 million to facilitate the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in Suva. This announcement was made by Permanent Secretary Meli Nacuva during the official opening ceremony held at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
This event marks a significant occasion for Fiji, attracting leading weightlifting nations such as India, England, Malaysia, Singapore, Wales, Canada, and Sri Lanka. More than 210 participants from 25 countries are expected to compete in a week filled with challenging events at the Vodafone Arena.
Nacuva highlighted the importance of values such as discipline, perseverance, and determination that weightlifting promotes, encouraging the Fijian community to support the athletes. He also expressed appreciation to all athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and sponsors for their commitment to ensuring the event’s success.
