A delegation from FMF Group and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) recently returned from a significant week-long Electric Vehicle (EV) training program in China, marking a pivotal moment in Fiji’s journey towards embracing the rapidly evolving EV sector. This initiative highlights the growing commitment to enhancing Fiji’s preparedness for the future of transportation and signifies a robust collaboration between FMF and the LTA.
The training encompassed practical exposure to contemporary EV environments and focused on essential areas such as capacity building in EV regulations, which included inspection procedures, compliance requirements, and the use of specialized equipment. Furthermore, the program facilitated technical upskilling through practical sessions designed to deepen participants’ understanding of EV systems, diagnostics, and safety measures. This experience also fostered cross-cultural collaboration, strengthening ties between Fiji and China by enabling knowledge exchange among LTA, FMF, and leading EV training institutions.
In its bid to become a key player in the EV market within Fiji and the broader Pacific region, FMF is strategically positioning itself as a major dealer for electric vehicles. Avneil Kumar, a vehicle examiner at LTA, emphasized that the training would significantly bolster LTA’s technical capabilities in managing and enforcing safety standards for these innovative technologies, ultimately enabling them to better support their regulatory responsibilities.
This proactive step towards advancing EV knowledge and infrastructure underscores Fiji’s commitment to staying aligned with international best practices, thereby paving the way for a sustainable and environmentally friendly future in transportation.
