Fiji Gears Up for Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships with $1.3 Million Boost

The Fijian Government has announced a commitment of $1.3 million to support the 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships set to take place in Suva. The announcement was made by Permanent Secretary Meli Nacuva during the official opening ceremony at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

This event marks a significant achievement for Fiji, with participation from prominent weightlifting countries such as India, England, Malaysia, Singapore, Wales, Canada, and Sri Lanka. The competition will feature over 210 competitors from 25 nations, promising a week filled with intense action at the Vodafone Arena.

Nacuva highlighted the core values of discipline, perseverance, and determination that weightlifting fosters and encouraged the Fijian community to support the athletes. He also expressed appreciation to all athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and sponsors for their commitment to ensuring the event’s success.
