The Fijian Government has announced a commitment of $1.3 million to support the upcoming 2024 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships to be held in Suva. The announcement was made by Permanent Secretary Meli Nacuva during the event’s official opening ceremony at the Vodafone Arena.

This championship marks a significant event for Fiji, attracting top weightlifting nations such as India, England, Malaysia, Singapore, Wales, Canada, and Sri Lanka. The competition will feature more than 210 participants from 25 countries, culminating in a week of intense competition at the Vodafone Arena.

Nacuva highlighted the core values of discipline, perseverance, and determination that weightlifting promotes, encouraging the Fijian community to support their athletes. He also expressed gratitude to the athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and sponsors for their commitment to ensuring the event’s success.
