Fiji Futsal Women’s Team Makes Waves in OFC Championship!

The Digicel Fiji Futsal Women’s team made a strong start in the OFC Futsal Championship held in the Solomon Islands, winning their opening match against Tahiti 2-1 on Saturday, followed by a decisive 4-0 victory over Tonga the next day.

Koleta Likuculacula was the standout player in the first match, scoring both goals for Fiji. The game began slowly, with Tahiti taking an early lead in the 15th minute thanks to a goal from Marina Rahema. However, Fiji quickly equalized with a brilliant goal from Likuculacula before the halftime break.

In the second half, Fiji maintained control, with players like Louisa Simmons and Cema Nasau generating additional scoring opportunities. Despite the pressure, Tahiti’s goalkeeper, Corail Harry, made several key saves to keep Fiji from scoring again. The dynamics changed when Ninauea Hioe of Tahiti received a second yellow card, leaving her team down a player for two minutes. Fiji took advantage of this opportunity, and in the final minutes, Likuculacula sealed the win with her second goal.

Following their triumph over Tahiti, the Jerry Sam-coached team continued to impress by defeating Tonga, with Likuculacula, Sofi Diyalowai, and Unaisi Tuberi all contributing to the scoreline.
