Fiji Futsal is poised for significant advancements in 2025, according to national coach Jerry Sam. Following the Extra Supermarket Futsal Inter-District Championship (IDC), Sam expressed his satisfaction with the players’ performances and emphasized the importance of investment in the sport, particularly thanking Extra for their sponsorship.

Looking ahead, Sam noted the upcoming challenges for the national team, including several OFC futsal championships and the opportunity to host a club championship. He has already identified promising talents from the IDC, indicating a commitment to nurturing the next generation of players. In preparation for these events, Sam plans to assemble a squad of 30 players for a training camp in March, with open trials for untested players in the hopes of further expanding the talent pool.

The reigning IDC champions, Suva, will be competing in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) championship in Suva. Sam has offered his support to the Suva side, providing technical assistance as needed. He is particularly focused on selecting young, active players capable of sustaining the demands of the game, aiming to finalize a 20-member squad over six weeks of training before narrowing it down to the final team.

This proactive approach demonstrates Fiji Futsal’s dedication to growth and excellence, ensuring that the players are well-prepared for international competition while fostering new talents. The optimism surrounding the future of Fiji’s futsal teams reflects a broader commitment to elevating the sport in the country, providing a hopeful outlook for fans and athletes alike.
