Fiji’s national Futsal head coach Jose Gerardo praised the commitment and enthusiasm of coaches from the Northern Division after a successful Futsal Coaching Course held at the Fiji FA Academy in Labasa. The three-day event, attended by 15 participants from districts including Dreketi, Bua, Udu, Savusavu, and Labasa, is part of Fiji FA’s ongoing initiative to promote futsal across the nation.
Gerardo expressed his satisfaction with the turnout, noting the coaches’ eagerness to learn and their passion for advancing futsal in their communities. He was particularly encouraged by the participation of a female coach from Udu Point, who is also a schoolteacher, viewing her attendance as a promising indicator of futsal’s growing appeal.
The national coach emphasized the critical role of grassroots development in the Northern Division, affirming that the skills and knowledge acquired during the course would significantly uplift the standard of futsal in the region. He underscored the importance of mastering coaching fundamentals, methods, and game principles to enhance the overall quality of the sport.
“I’m very happy with the response from the North,” Gerardo remarked. “The coaches were eager to learn and showed great interest in developing futsal in their respective districts.” He also highlighted the necessity of these training sessions in identifying and nurturing young talents for future competitions, such as the Youth Olympics.
The success of this coaching course not only reflects the growing enthusiasm for futsal in Fiji but also sets a strong foundation for the future of the sport, encouraging more individuals to engage and develop their skills within their communities.
