Fiji Women’s Futsal coach Jerry Sam is pushing his team to elevate their performance ahead of their upcoming match against New Zealand. This call for improvement comes after a 4-0 victory over Tonga, which left Sam wanting more from his team’s intensity and speed.
Despite securing a convincing win in their second match of the OFC Women’s Futsal Championship, Sam expressed his concerns about the team’s sluggish start and lack of urgency, particularly against tougher opponents. “We had a bit of a slow start with the mindset that, you know, whoever plays Tonga starts off very slow. This is something we don’t want to happen in the next game, and we have to consider that,” Sam remarked.
Throughout the match against Tonga, Sam’s impatience was evident as he actively encouraged his players from the sidelines to increase their efforts and seize more opportunities to score. He believes the team has the necessary talent and potential to excel, and is determined to see them showcase that ability on the court.
The upcoming match holds greater significance for Fiji, as they will face New Zealand tomorrow at 4 pm at the Friendship Hall in the Solomon Islands.
