Fijians will face increased prices for fuel and LPG products starting tomorrow, as the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has officially approved updated retail prices for these essential commodities.
Motor spirit will now cost $2.60 per liter, reflecting a two-cent increase from the current rate. The price of premix will also rise, increasing by four cents to $2.45 per liter. Kerosene is set to sell for $1.77 per liter, while diesel will see a six-cent hike, bringing its price to $2.28 per liter.
In terms of LPG products, the cost of a 4.5kg cylinder will be $13.64, and customers will pay approximately 31 cents more for the 12kg cylinder, which will retail at $36.36. Additionally, bulk LPG will now cost $2.81 per kilogram, while auto gas will increase by two cents to $1.93 per liter.
In light of these changes, the FCCC Enforcement Team will implement regular inspections at wholesale and retail outlets and service stations to ensure compliance with the new pricing. The commission emphasizes that the prices set are the maximum allowable for wholesalers and retailers, allowing them to sell at or below these rates.
This adjustment in prices is reflective of ongoing monitoring by the FCCC, which remains vigilant in its regulatory role to protect consumers. The increase comes amidst fluctuating international fuel prices and currency exchange rates, factors that continue to impact costs in the region. Despite the higher prices, the ongoing oversight aims to maintain fairness and transparency within the market.
The FCCC encourages consumers to remain attentive and report any instances of unfair pricing practices as they navigate these changes.
