The 2025 Fiji Fringe Festival is gearing up to be one of its most significant events despite operating on a reduced budget. Festival director Sharleen Ali announced during the media launch that the festival will still expand its lineup and introduce new creative workshops, thanks to a valuable partnership with the Suva City Council which has drastically reduced venue costs.
“Our major costs are venue hire and sound and light,” Ali emphasized, expressing gratitude for the council’s support in lowering expenses. This year, the festival will feature over 400 artists, marking an increase in expressions of interest from performers eager to participate. However, due to space and technical limitations, organizers will curate the final lineup to showcase the best talents.
In addition to performances, the festival is excited to introduce expanded creative and cultural workshops, including literature education sessions in collaboration with Baka Books and Studio Kin. These workshops will be accessible to participants ranging from children to seniors, enhancing the festival’s appeal to the entire community.
Set to kick off this Saturday, the 2025 Fiji Fringe Festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of Fiji’s artistic community, encouraging creativity and engagement through a diverse array of performances and workshop opportunities. The festival not only celebrates the arts but also fosters community connections and cultural appreciation, showcasing Fiji’s commitment to supporting local talent and cultural initiatives.
This year’s festival is not just about artistic expression but also about the collective spirit that events like these bring to the community, creating opportunities for deeper connections and celebration of culture in Fiji.
