Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica announced that the government is currently reviewing the Cybersecurity Maturity Model assessment for Fiji. He made this statement during the two-day Fiji Tech Summit 2024, which commenced at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort in Denarau.
Kamikamica indicated that the review, undertaken in partnership with the Oceania Cyber Security Centre, will underpin the upcoming National Cybersecurity Strategy. This strategy aims to establish clear objectives for the nation to enhance its cybersecurity and resilience.
The minister highlighted that various cybersecurity trends and protective measures for safeguarding critical information will be key topics at the summit. He praised the organizers for facilitating vital discussions in light of the fast-changing landscape of cyber threats.
Furthermore, Kamikamica assured that the Fijian government is taking cybersecurity seriously and is working on initiatives to bolster this area, including the imminent establishment of the Fiji National Computer Emergency Response Team (Fiji CERT), which will focus on protecting the cybersecurity of its citizens.
The Fiji Tech Summit, hosted by DATEC Fiji, will conclude today.
