The Ministry of Justice has held its inaugural meeting of the Combined Law Enforcement and Social Crisis Agency Taskforce, marking a significant move towards a more coordinated approach in tackling Fiji’s escalating social and criminal issues.

Chaired by the Permanent Secretary for Justice, this high-profile gathering united senior officials from various law and justice sectors along with crucial partner ministries, all focused on enhancing strategies to address drug-related harm, youth vulnerabilities, emerging crime trends, and overall community well-being.

The Taskforce, during the meeting, reaffirmed its mission and ensured alignment with national security objectives as well as the Government’s larger policy framework. Participants shared invaluable insights from their respective fields, which included policing, national security, health, education, rehabilitation, human rights, community outreach, and the justice system.

The discussions underscored the imperative for improved operational collaboration, comprehensive legislative reviews and modernizations, better coordination across public services, and a commitment to deeper community engagement. Moving forward, the Taskforce plans to finalize priority actions, provide feedback to agency leadership, and implement joint strategies effectively.

The Ministry of Justice views this meeting as a pivotal step toward creating a more unified and effective national response to the pressing challenges facing Fiji today. By fostering collaboration among various sectors, the government aims to cultivate a safer, healthier community for all its citizens.
