Beyond the headline

An easterly wind flow will dominate Fiji's weather with a weak trough expected to affect eastern areas from later tomorrow. This pattern brings cloudy periods with showers and isolated heavy falls for many eastern and some central districts, while most other areas will be mainly fine aside from afternoon and evening showers and possible thunderstorms over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Winds will be moderate to fresh and seas moderate to rough.

Cloudy periods with showers and isolated heavy falls are likely over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, southern Bua, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands through to midnight tomorrow. The outlook for Wednesday remains much the same for these areas, with continued chances of occasional showers and isolated heavy falls and the possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms.

In the central areas of Navua, Suva and Nausori expect cloudy periods with some showers and isolated heavy falls, with thunderstorms possible in the afternoons or evenings. Temperatures are forecast around a minimum of 23°C and a maximum near 31°C tomorrow, easing slightly overnight into Wednesday with a min around 22°C and a similar daytime high. Similar conditions and temperature ranges apply to Natadradave and Korovou, as well as to Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu — all seeing showers at times, isolated heavy falls and possible thunderstorms.

Western and more exposed resort and coastal districts will be largely fine apart from the risk of afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Yasawa and Mamanuca should be mainly fine tomorrow (23–31°C) before returning to the chance of afternoon or evening showers and storms on Wednesday. Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, Nadi/Lautoka/Ba, Tavua/Rakiraki and Labasa can expect fine conditions with the same afternoon/evening shower or thunderstorm risk; daytime highs range from about 31–33°C through the period. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba are noted for the potential of heavier falls in the evening of Wednesday.

Sea and wind conditions will be a factor across the group: moderate to fresh easterly winds are expected, with seas moderate to rough. Boaters and those planning marine activities should take these conditions into account. Rotuma remains under the influence of a weak trough, bringing cloudy periods with showers and isolated thunderstorms, moderate to fresh northeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas; temperatures there are around 23–32°C tomorrow with similar conditions into Wednesday.
