The Fiji Football Association has donated $32,819 to WOWS Kids Fiji to support the fight against childhood cancer in the country. The funds were raised during the Fiji FACT and the Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants Tournament, where $1 from each ticket sold went to WOWS Kids Fiji.
The handover took place at the opening ceremony of the FMF Inter District Championship last Tuesday at Churchill Park in Lautoka, led by Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo.
Patel highlighted the association’s ongoing commitment to assist WOWS Kids through fundraising efforts at football events, which began with the Pacific Community Cup in 2022. “We are happy to be in this fight with WOWS Kids, and we will continue to be in it together,” he stated.
He described the initiative as part of the Fiji FA’s social and corporate responsibility. “We have the Football for Humanity program focused on the welfare of former players, but as part of our corporate social responsibility, we chose to partner with WOWS Kids, which supports children diagnosed with cancer,” Patel explained.
He reaffirmed that the Fiji FA will continue to provide support to WOWS Kids Fiji in every possible way, noting that last year they donated a total of $37,532 and thanked the football fans for their contributions.
Vilash Chand, vice chair of WOWS Kids, expressed appreciation for the support received from Fiji FA over the last two years. “On behalf of our founders and board, we are extremely grateful to Fiji Football. The donations have helped save many children’s lives,” he remarked. He added that the contribution would help ease the financial burden on families who are struggling to afford cancer treatments for their children.
