Fiji’s national football team is gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Oceania Qualifiers next month, with top striker Roy Krishna confirmed as a starter. Krishna, who is also Oceania’s leading goal scorer and Fiji’s most-capped player with 16 years of international experience, is set to play a vital role in the team’s preparations.
Fiji Football’s chief executive, Mohammed Yusuf, announced the team’s recent preparation progress following their participation in the Tri-Nations series, where they secured a victory against the Solomon Islands and played to a draw with Hong Kong.
The Bula Boys will head to Papua New Guinea on November 9 for two matches. Krishna, who turned 37 in August, is expected to arrive from India on October 6, participate in a match on October 10, and then return to India before rejoining the team in Papua New Guinea.
Yusuf highlighted the importance of integrating experienced players like Samuela Kautoga, Setareki Hughes, Akuila Mateisuva, and Krishna with younger teammates. He stated that coach Rob Sherman and the management team are developing a strategic game plan ahead of their encounter with the Solomon Islands, expressing confidence in the team’s preparation and potential for success.
The upcoming qualifiers include matches against the Solomon Islands on October 10, Papua New Guinea on November 14, and New Caledonia on November 17, all taking place in Papua New Guinea.
