The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) is set to embark on an ambitious $55 million project that is expected to revolutionize football in Fiji and across the Pacific region. Scheduled to commence construction by the end of this year, the Lomolomo Academy will span an impressive 18 acres and will include a FIFA Technical Academy for Oceania, a state-of-the-art stadium, accommodation facilities, and multiple football pitches.
Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel announced this transformative initiative during the Extra Supermarket Fiji FA Awards, referring to it as a “game-changer” for the sport. He expressed confidence in the project’s success, citing the achievements of the existing Labasa Academy, which was built at a cost of $6.5 million and is currently operational.
Patel emphasized the academy’s goal to create pathways for young players to realize their potential, thereby enhancing Fiji’s standing on the global football stage and promoting the sport throughout the Pacific. He stated, “This academy will open doors for footballers across Fiji, offering pathways to achieve their dreams and reach new heights.” This initiative reflects Fiji FA’s dedication to nurturing local talent and paving the way for a brighter future for football in the region.
This significant investment in the football infrastructure not only aims to support local athletes but also enhances Fiji’s global football profile, fostering a sense of community and shared aspirations among aspiring footballers. The Lomolomo Academy stands as a hopeful beacon for the future of sports in Fiji and the Pacific, illustrating the possibilities that stem from commitment and investment in youth development.
