Fiji Football U16 Team Aims to Make History in U16 OFC Championship

The Fiji Football under-16 team plans to adopt a fearless approach as they compete in the U16 OFC Championship in Tahiti from July 28 to August 10.

Head coach Sunil Kumar emphasized the importance of consistency.

“Our style and approach will be more fearless. The consistent message to our players in training is ‘play to win, in body and in mind,’” Kumar said.

He stated their ambition to make history as the first Fijian team to win the championship and qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup.

“Our objective is to be the first Fijian U16 team to win the OFC Championship and qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup. Our aim is to bring more Fijian flair into our game,” Kumar added.

“We will take each game at a time, and our goal is to finish the group on top.”

The team includes four overseas-based players: one from the UK, two from Australia, and one from New Zealand.

“We currently have 24 players in camp. Only 23 players will travel on July 23. The overseas players have integrated really well with the local players,” Kumar concluded.
