Fiji Football Scores Big for Childhood Cancer Awareness

The Fiji Football Association has donated $32,819 to WOWS Kids Fiji to support the fight against childhood cancer in the country. This funding was generated during the Fiji FACT and Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants Tournament, where $1 from each ticket sold was directed to WOWS Kids Fiji.

The donation was presented during the FMF Inter District Championship opening ceremony at Churchill Park in Lautoka last Tuesday, by Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo. Patel highlighted the association’s ongoing dedication to supporting WOWS Kids through fundraising activities at football tournaments since the Pacific Community Cup in 2022.

“We are pleased to join forces with WOWS Kids in this important battle, and we will continue to support them,” Patel stated. He noted that this initiative is part of the Fiji FA’s social and corporate responsibility efforts.

“We have the Football for Humanity program focused on our former players’ welfare, but as part of our corporate social responsibility, we chose to partner with WOWS Kids, which supports children diagnosed with the life-threatening disease of cancer,” Patel explained. He assured that Fiji FA would maintain its support for WOWS Kids Fiji in every possible way, acknowledging that last year they contributed a total of $37,532, thanking football fans for their generosity.

Vilash Chand, vice chair of WOWS Kids, expressed appreciation for Fiji FA’s assistance over the last two years. “On behalf of our founders and board, we are profoundly thankful to Fiji Football. The contributions have played a vital role in saving many children’s lives,” he said. Chand added that the donation will help alleviate the financial strain on families facing the high costs of cancer treatments for their children.
