The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) is eagerly awaiting FIFA’s approval to begin construction on a new 20,000-seat stadium in Lomolomo, Lautoka. CEO Mohammed Yusuf indicated plans to commence the first phase of construction, which involves raising the stadium by one meter above sea level, as early as September. The total cost of the project is estimated between $25 million and $30 million.

At a recent council meeting in Suva, the Fiji FA appointed a five-member development committee tasked with overseeing the project. This committee comprises individuals with expertise in construction and business operations. Yusuf emphasized the committee’s role in maximizing the use of the 18 acres of land designated for the stadium, which will also include a high-performance unit, a medical center, a media room, a futsal court, and other technical facilities for football.

The project is structured in four phases, with the stadium expected to be completed by 2030. However, there are plans to host games at the facility by 2028.

In addition to the stadium plans, the Fiji FA is preparing for the OFC Pro League, set to launch in January 2026, indicating a bright future for professional football in Fiji. The league aims to feature at least eight professional teams from various Pacific nations, with Fiji intending to submit bids for two teams. This initiative aligns with the broader objective of securing stronger regional representation in the global football arena, especially with Oceania’s first guaranteed spot in the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup.

This transformative phase for football in Fiji embodies hope and potential, promising to foster local talent, enhance the sport’s infrastructure, and strengthen community ties through a shared passion for football.
