The Fiji Football Association (FFA), in collaboration with Pillay Garments, has officially launched the 2025 Pillay Garments Champion vs. Champion series, marking the beginning of the new football season. This year’s opening series features the Inter District champions, Labasa, going head-to-head with the League winners, Rewa.
The highly anticipated first match is set to take place at Subrail Park on February 1, with Labasa hosting Rewa. Following this, the return leg of the series will occur at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on February 9. This edition of the series is significant as it is the 33rd instance of the competition, and it becomes even more exciting with the absence of the defending champions, Lautoka, which opens opportunities for new contenders to emerge.
Mohammed Yusuf, the Chief Executive of FFA, expressed gratitude towards the loyal sponsor, Pillay Garments, for its long-standing support of the event. Both team captains, Simiome Tamanisau from Labasa and Setareki Hughes from Rewa, have conveyed their eagerness and readiness for what promises to be a thrilling competition, while also looking forward to showcasing their teams’ talent before enthusiastic local supporters.
Furthermore, the winning team of the Champion vs. Champion series will receive $5,000, with $2,500 awarded to the runners-up, along with additional financial support for their preparations. This initiative not only boosts the competitive spirit but also fosters community engagement throughout Fiji.
The start of the 2025 season signifies a time of hope and renewed excitement for football in Fiji, as it brings fans together, promotes local talent, and highlights the country’s passion for the sport. With the promise of thrilling matches ahead, supporters are encouraged to embrace the competitive spirit that unites their communities through football.
