Fiji Football Association’s Technical Director, Timo Jankowski, has resigned from his role for personal reasons, effective May. This decision was confirmed by the CEO of Fiji FA, Mohammed Yusuf, who expressed gratitude for Jankowski’s four-year contribution to the development of football in Fiji, particularly at the grassroots level.

Since his appointment in 2021, Jankowski focused on nurturing local talent and enhancing coaching standards. His notable achievements include the initiation of the FIFA Football for Schools program, which integrated football into schools throughout Fiji, significantly promoting healthy lifestyles among children and increasing physical activity in both urban and rural settings.

Yusuf also stated that Jankowski will play an essential role in the transition period by aiding in the selection of a suitable successor to ensure continuity in advancing the association’s grassroots initiatives. The upcoming leadership change is seen as an opportunity for fresh ideas that could further enhance the future of football in Fiji.

Similar transitions within the Fiji Football Association have occurred before, notably including the resignation of Jerry Sam, the head coach for Fiji Futsal and Beach Soccer. These changes indicate an evolving landscape within Fijian football, allowing space for innovative approaches and revitalized strategies.

Overall, while Jankowski’s departure presents challenges, it also heralds a focal point for growth, especially with forthcoming grassroots coaching programs aimed at women’s football. The initiatives designed to inspire the next generation of players and coaches reflect the association’s commitment to an inclusive and progressive football environment in Fiji.
