Timo Jankowski, the Technical Director of the Fiji Football Association, has submitted his resignation as he seeks a new professional opportunity in Germany. His departure marks a significant shift for Fijian football, as Jankowski’s contributions during his tenure have been substantial, particularly in the areas of local talent development and coaching structure enhancement.

Among his notable achievements, Jankowski played a pivotal role in launching the FIFA Football for Schools (F4S) initiative. This program successfully integrated football into the educational system across Fiji, reaching many schools in both urban and remote areas, thereby promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyles among children.

This transition in leadership within the Fiji Football Association is reminiscent of previous resignations within the organization, such as that of Jerry Sam, the head coach for Fiji Futsal and Beach Soccer. Sam’s departure also indicated a need for fresh perspectives and leadership within the organization, aligning with the continuous evolution of Fiji’s football programs.

As Jankowski moves on, it is essential for the Fiji Football Association to continue nurturing the seeds he has planted. There remains much potential for growth, particularly with the upcoming grassroots coaching courses aimed at promoting women’s football in Fiji. These initiatives carry the hope of improving the standard of play and coaching in the country.

Overall, while Jankowski’s resignation may seem challenging, it opens the door for new leadership and innovative ideas that could benefit Fijian football in the longer term.
