At the conclusion of Day Two of the Bic Fiji FACT, two players out of the twenty-four tested have returned positive results for banned substances, according to Fiji Football Association CEO Mohammad Yusuf. This follows a similar incident from the previous day, where one player tested positive among the same group of 24.

The Fiji Football Association is initiating an investigation to determine whether the individuals are first-time or repeat offenders. Subsequently, the disciplinary committee will convene to decide on appropriate actions based on the findings. This proactive stance aims to maintain the integrity of the game and address drug use in sports.

This year’s testing comes in the wake of concerning trends, highlighted by a significant increase in drug violations at the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship, where 21 out of 180 players tested positive, up from seven the previous year. The association is dedicated to enhancing its drug awareness initiatives, collaborating with relevant authorities to educate players about the dangers of substance abuse and its effects on their communities.

The emphasis on education and prevention presents a hopeful outlook for the future of sports in Fiji, reinforcing the importance of maintaining a fair and healthy athletic environment. The Fiji Football Association’s commitment to these efforts is critical as they strive to shift the narrative surrounding substance use in sports, promoting better health and responsibility among athletes.
