Fiji Football is mourning the loss of its Senior Vice President, Yogeshwar Singh, who passed away at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. His death marks a significant loss for the football community, as he dedicated over 30 years of his life to football administration in Fiji.
Rajesh Patel, the President of Fiji FA and a member of the FIFA Council, expressed deep sorrow over Singh’s passing, saying, “We have lost a great man today — one who had football in his heart. Football was his life.” He acknowledged Singh’s immense contributions to the sport, highlighting that he leaves behind a legacy that many can only aspire to achieve. Patel also extended thoughts and prayers to Singh’s family during this challenging time.
Singh was elected as Vice President of the Fiji FA in 2011 and previously held the position of President of the Rewa Football Association. His influence extended beyond administration as he served as Chairman of the National League Board and the Fiji FA Referees Committee. He was also known for his role as former Mayor of Nausori Town.
The football community has a rich history of honoring its leaders, similar to the heartfelt tributes given to Madran Narayan, a former president of Navua FA, whose legacy resonated with many for his dedication to the sport. Both Singh and Narayan are remembered for their unwavering commitment and passion, which have significantly contributed to the growth of football in Fiji.
In this time of mourning, the community is inspired to carry forward the legacies of such dedicated figures. The contributions of leaders like Singh and Narayan serve as a reminder of the profound impact individuals can have in fostering development and unity within sports.
