The football communities in Fiji and New Zealand are grieving the loss of former Lautoka and national team midfielder Epeli Rokotuva Kosa, who passed away peacefully in Auckland, New Zealand at the age of 66.
Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel, along with board members and the wider football community, expressed deep sorrow over Kosa’s death. Patel emphasized Kosa’s vital role in Fijian football, recognizing him as an outstanding player and an inspirational leader during his time.
Patel offered his heartfelt condolences to Kosa’s family during this challenging period. Sachin Dutt, president of New Zealand Fiji Football Incorporated, also lamented the loss, stating, “It’s a huge loss. I am in complete shock. He was a great footballer and an inspirational leader. I convey my heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to the grieving family and pray for his soul to rest in peace.”
Former national football representative Ronald Chaudhary, currently residing in Canada, remembered Kosa as a dear friend, both on and off the field. “Kosa was humble, and we discussed soccer as casually as we discussed food,” Chaudhary recalled. He added, “Bade bhai (big brother), this is indeed very sad for Fiji Soccer. You were an idol for many. You sent motivational quotes every morning and always encouraged the Fiji soccer community overseas to unite. I am speechless and saddened to hear you have left us, big brother. I was looking forward to seeing you next year.”
