Fiji Football has announced the passing of its Senior Vice President, Yogeshwar Singh, who died last night at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva. His death has left a significant void in the football community, prompting an outpouring of grief and fond remembrance.
Rajesh Patel, the president of Fiji FA and a member of the FIFA Council, expressed profound sorrow at Singh’s passing. “We have lost a great man today — one who had football in his heart. Football was his life,” Patel stated. He highlighted Singh’s considerable contributions to the development of football in Fiji, stating that he leaves behind a legacy that many aspire to fulfill. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” he added.
Singh dedicated over 30 years to football administration. He was elected as the Vice President of Fiji FA in 2011 and previously served as President of the Rewa Football Association. Additionally, he held vital roles such as Chairman of the National League Board and the Fiji FA Referees Committee. Alongside his football contributions, Singh was also a former Mayor of Nausori Town.
The passing of Singh resonates similarly to the earlier loss of Madran Narayan, the former president of Navua FA, who received similar tributes from Patel and the football community for his significant impact on the sport in Fiji. Both leaders are remembered not just for their administrative skills but also for the camaraderie they fostered within the football community.
As the community mourns, they are united in celebrating the lives and contributions of figures like Singh and Narayan, who inspire hope for the future of football in Fiji. Their legacies continue to motivate current and future generations to contribute passionately to the sport.
The heartfelt sentiments shared reflect the deep bonds formed within the community through their shared love for football, while simultaneously emphasizing the importance of remembering and honoring those who have dedicated their lives to its growth and improvement.
