Ten local coaches are currently participating in a five-day B-licence coaching course, Part Two, organized by the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) at the Fiji Football Association Academy in Ba. This training initiative, which commenced on Sunday and is set to conclude on Thursday, aims to improve the expertise and effectiveness of coaches in the region.
Yogendra Dutt, the Coach Educator, highlighted that the course emphasizes six key competencies: football knowledge, leadership, game understanding, player development, coaching processes, and the creation of a personal football philosophy. Dutt stated, “This is a course in which we look to provide experiences for the coaches to grow but also to challenge them to be better adapted to the new experiences they may have in the future.”
This session follows the successful completion of B-licence Part One, which took place in December 2023 at the Suva Academy. Dutt and the national coach, Rob Sherman, are facilitating the current program.
The coaches participating in this important development opportunity represent various local teams, including Ronil Kumar (Ba), Babs Khan (Suva), Roderick Singh (Rewa), Saiyad Ali (Navua), Rozal Hussain (Savusavu), Johan Leewai (Labasa), Mohammed Asif Khan (Nadi), Dhiren Chand (Ba), Shawal Prasad (Tavua), and Alvin Chand (Labasa).
This initiative not only strengthens the skills of the coaches but also contributes to the overall growth of football at the grassroots level in Fiji, paving the way for a new generation of talent in the sport.
In summary, the OFC B-licence coaching course is a vital step in enhancing the capabilities of local coaches, ensuring they are well-equipped to foster talent and adapt to the evolving landscape of football. This program represents a promising investment in the future of the sport in the region.
