FIFA icon Luke Wilkshire will serve as the chief guest at the upcoming Extra Supermarket Fiji Football Association’s Awards Night, scheduled for December 1 at the Crown Plaza Hotel.
Wilkshire, who enjoyed a successful career as a right back, represented Australia in 80 international matches. He is well-known for his time in the English Premier League with Middlesbrough and Bristol City, as well as his stint with Dutch club Feyenoord.
Fiji FA’s chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf, confirmed the news yesterday. The Awards Night marks a highly anticipated comeback after a three-year pause due to various challenges. This year, there are 14 prestigious awards available, supported by the new sponsor, Extra Supermarket, which is expected to enhance the event’s grandeur.
The awards include Footballer of the Year for both males and females, Young Footballer of the Year (male and female), Futsal Player of the Year (male and female), Team of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Coach of the Year, Referee of the Year, Elite Player of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Employee of the Year.
This event not only celebrates the achievements of players and officials but also highlights the vibrant football community in Fiji, fostering a spirit of recognition and motivation ahead of the new season.
In a hopeful turn, this return of the awards signifies a revival of commitment to the sport and local talent, paving the way for an exciting future in Fijian football.
