The Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) is reinforcing its commitment to social responsibility by providing financial support to former national football players’ families to aid in their children’s education. Recently, the association presented $500 cheques to notable former players, including Dan Lutumailagi, Tony Kabakoro, Vula Wate, and Rusiate Waqan.
This initiative is designed to honor the contributions of past players who have significantly impacted the growth of football in Fiji. Fiji FA President Rajesh Patel stated that this financial assistance is made possible through funds raised during the annual RC Manubhai/Apco Coatings International Veterans Tournament, with all proceeds aimed specifically at supporting the education of these players’ children and grandchildren.
Patel emphasized the dual purpose of the initiative: not only does it provide practical financial aid, but it also conveys a deep sense of gratitude and respect from the football community towards those who have paved the way for today’s players. The selection of families to receive support is managed by trustees within the Veterans Committee to ensure fairness and transparency.
This program follows Fiji FA’s ongoing efforts to support former players and their families and aligns with their broader social responsibility initiatives, which also include collaborations with charities such as WOWS Kids, focused on helping children battling cancer. These efforts reflect a heartwarming commitment to give back to the community, illustrating how sports can positively impact lives beyond the playing field.
Overall, the consistent support demonstrated by Fiji FA provides hope that the legacy of former players will be recognized and cherished, enabling future generations to benefit from their contributions.
