Fiji Football Association Scores Big for Childhood Cancer Support!

The Fiji Football Association has donated $32,819 to WOWS Kids Fiji to aid in the fight against childhood cancer. This amount was collected during the Fiji FACT and Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants Tournament, where $1 from each ticket sold was allocated to WOWS Kids Fiji.

The donation was presented at the opening ceremony of the FMF Inter District Championship last Tuesday at Churchill Park in Lautoka by Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo.

Patel highlighted the association’s dedication to supporting WOWS Kids through funds raised at football tournaments since the Pacific Community Cup in 2022. He expressed satisfaction in collaborating with WOWS Kids, stating, “We are happy to be in this fight with WOWS Kids, and we will continue to be in it together.”

He mentioned that this initiative is part of Fiji FA’s social and corporate responsibility efforts. “We have the Football for Humanity program which supports our former players, but as part of our corporate social responsibility, we chose to partner with WOWS Kids, which is devoted to helping children battling the serious disease of cancer,” Patel remarked. He assured that Fiji FA would keep backing WOWS Kids Fiji in all possible ways.

Last year, Fiji FA contributed a total of $37,532, and Patel extended his gratitude to the football fans for their support. WOWS Kids vice chair Vilash Chand thanked Fiji FA for its ongoing assistance over the past two years. “On behalf of our founders and board, we are extremely grateful to Fiji Football. The donations have significantly aided in saving many children’s lives,” he stated. Chand added that this contribution will help ease the financial strain on families who are struggling to pay for cancer treatments for their children.
