Fiji Football Association has donated $32,819 to WOWS Kids Fiji to support the fight against childhood cancer in the country. This funding was raised during the Fiji FACT and the Rooster Chicken/Scoops Ice Cream Battle of the Giants Tournament, where $1 from each ticket sold was earmarked for WOWS Kids Fiji.
The donation was presented during the opening ceremony of the FMF Inter District Championship last Tuesday at Churchill Park in Lautoka by Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel and Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Filimoni Vosarogo. Patel highlighted the association’s ongoing commitment to support WOWS Kids through funds gathered at football tournaments since the Pacific Community Cup in 2022.
“We are happy to stand alongside WOWS Kids in this fight, and we will continue to support them,” Patel stated. He noted that this initiative is part of Fiji FA’s broader social and corporate responsibility efforts. “We have the Football for Humanity program aimed at assisting our former players, but as part of our corporate social responsibility, we decided to collaborate with WOWS Kids, which assists children diagnosed with cancer,” he added.
Patel confirmed that Fiji FA intends to maintain its support for WOWS Kids Fiji in every possible way. “Last year, we contributed a total of $37,532, and I want to extend my thanks to our football fans for their support,” he remarked.
WOWS Kids vice-chair Vilash Chand expressed deep appreciation for the continuous support from Fiji FA over the past two years. “On behalf of our founders and board, we are extremely grateful to Fiji Football. The donations have played a crucial role in saving many children’s lives,” Chand said. He also emphasized that the contribution will help reduce the financial burden on families who are struggling to afford cancer treatments for their children.
