FIFA legend Luke Wilkshire will be the guest of honor at the Extra Supermarket Fiji Football Association’s Awards Night, which is scheduled to take place at the Crown Plaza Hotel on December 1.

Wilkshire, who had an impressive career as a right back, represented the Australian national team in 80 international matches. His club career includes stints with Middlesbrough and Bristol City in the English Premier League, as well as playing for Dutch club Feyenoord.

This exciting event marks the highly anticipated return of the Fiji FA Awards Night after a three-year break. According to Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf, the esteemed event will feature 14 notable awards, supported by the newly partnered sponsor, Extra Supermarket. This partnership is expected to elevate the event, making it larger and more enjoyable than in previous years.

The awards up for contention include prestigious titles such as Footballer of the Year Male and Female, Young Footballer of the Year Male and Female, and Futsal Player of the Year (Male/Female). Additional categories will recognize the Team of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Coach of the Year, Referee of the Year, Elite Player of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and Employee of the Year.

This year’s awards night promises not only to celebrate the achievements of individual athletes and teams but also to foster a sense of community within Fiji’s football scene, recognizing the hard work of everyone involved in the sport. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together, honor the accomplishments of the past year, and inspire future talents.

This event also serves as a reminder of the vibrant football culture in Fiji and the importance of recognizing and nurturing local talent. As the football community looks to the future, initiatives like these play a critical role in promoting the sport and boosting morale among players, coaches, and supporters.
