Young football enthusiasts embraced the joy of the sport during a vibrant session of the Fiji Football Association’s School Holiday Football Development Programme at the FIJI FA Academy in Vatuwaqa, Suva. The event, which attracted boys and girls aged six to 16, is part of a broader initiative aimed at developing young talent in football across the nation.
Sushil Singh, head of football development for the southern region, emphasized the program’s commitment to inclusivity, stating that it is designed for all interested youth. “We started earlier this week on Wednesday, and it will continue through to the end of the first term and school holidays,” he noted. The program not only welcomes returning participants who have engaged in previous years but also encourages new children to join and explore their passion for the game.
The initiative plays a crucial role in nurturing young athletes, providing them with valuable training and preparation for potential national representation. “It’s a pathway where we help these young boys and girls who have an interest in football to develop them further and get them ready,” Singh added.
In addition to this program, other regions, like Lautoka, are launching similar complimentary football initiatives aimed at children aged 7 to 15. These programs offer skill development, team games, expert coaching, and competitions without any financial burden, making them accessible to families in the community. Such programs not only promote physical fitness but also encourage teamwork and social interactions among participants, essential elements for personal growth.
These School Holiday Football Programmes reflect a positive investment in the youth, fostering both athletic skills and personal development during the school holidays. As these initiatives continue, they provide an excellent opportunity for young people to stay active, make friends, and possibly ignite a lifelong love for football.
