Fiji Water Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne has announced that the team has no significant injuries ahead of the eagerly awaited Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan on Saturday. Byrne reassured fans that the players are in excellent condition as they prepare to defend their title.
“We have a few minor niggles, which is typical during the third week of training, but everyone has been participating in practices and is ready to compete,” Byrne stated.
He emphasized the importance of making tackles count against Japan, who will have the advantage of playing at home. Japan is renowned for its speed and fluid play, prompting the Fijians to devise a strategy that incorporates physicality to counter their pace.
“We are particularly mindful of their speed on the edges, and we are preparing accordingly,” Byrne noted.
Byrne also pointed out the strengths of the Flying Fijians, stating, “We know we are capable ball carriers, and we are a strong physical side. Our scrummaging and lineout skills are robust, and we will leverage these strengths to match their speed with our physical presence.”
The Fijian team set to face Japan includes: Eroni Mawi, Tevita Ikanivere, Samuela Tawake, Isoa Nasilasila, Temo Mayanavanua, Ratu Meli Derenalagi, Kitione Salawa, Elia Canakaivata, Frank Lomani, Caleb Muntz, Ilaisa Droasese, Inia Tabuavou, Iosefo Masi, Vuate Karawalevu, and Isaiah Ravula.
The impact players are Mesulame Dolokoto, Haereiti Hetet, Meli Tuni, Mesake Vocevoce, Albert Tuisue, Peni Matawalu, Apisalome Vota, and Ponipate Loganimasi.
