The Fiji Water Flying Fijians have announced their roster for the upcoming match against Spain in the Autumn Nations series, highlighting the debut of former Fiji Warrior player Saimoni Uluinakauvadra. Head coach Mick Byrne has praised Uluinakauvadra for his physicality and fitness, noting that his skills as a number seven are impressive.
Byrne remarked on Spain’s physical nature as a team, stating, “They’re going to come hard, looking at Saimoni he has been playing well as a number seven. He’s very physical over the ball, he’s very fit. We’re looking forward to seeing him debut and showcase his talents, a product of the system over the years.”
The coach also underscored the necessity of a strong squad to tackle the challenges of playing four consecutive tests in the northern environment. “To play four tests in a row up here, you need a full squad. We’re giving several players the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and solidify their positions within the team,” he said.
The starting lineup features Eroni Mawi, Sam Matavesi, and Luke Tagi in the front row, with Mesake Vocevoce and Ratu Leone Rotuisolia as locks. The back row consists of Vilive Miramira, Saimoni Uluinakauvadra, and Albert Tuisue. The halfback pairing will be Simi Kuruvoli and Caleb Muntz, with Ponipate Loganimasi and Jiuta Wainiqolo taking the wings. Captain Waisea Nayacalevu and Sireli Maqala are set to lead the midfield, while Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula will take the fullback position.
On the bench, the team has prepared front row support with Mesulame Dolokoto, Haereiti Hetet, and Jone Koroiduadua. Temo Mayanavanua will serve as the lock replacement, with Elia Canakaivata covering the back row. Additionally, Peni Matawalu, Vilimoni Botitu, and Inia Tabuavou will bolster the backline.
