Search operations are actively underway this morning for two individuals believed to have drowned in separate incidents across the Northern and Western Divisions of Fiji, amidst challenging weather conditions. The operations underscore the continued risks posed by hazardous rainfall and flooding in the region.

In the first incident, a 65-year-old man from Cogea Village was swept away while attempting to navigate a flooded river near his home yesterday afternoon. Despite initial search efforts, authorities have yet to locate the victim. Accessing the village has proven difficult due to submerged roads, prompting the police to remain in contact with local community members who are assisting in the efforts.

The second incident involves a five-year-old foreign national who was swept away by strong currents near the Biausevu waterfall in Sigatoka. Despite ongoing search operations, results have not been fruitful so far. Community members are joining police officers in the search efforts in hopes of finding the child.

The Fiji Meteorological Service issued an updated bulletin at 4:30 AM, warning of heavy rain and ongoing flood conditions across the country. In light of these dangers, police have urged the public to adhere to all safety advisories, emphasizing their role in protecting lives. Parents and guardians are reminded to closely supervise children and all citizens are urged to avoid flooded roads or swimming in swollen rivers.

Authorities are appealing for cooperation and caution as they navigate these treacherous conditions while continuing search and rescue operations. There is hope that the combined efforts of the community and law enforcement will yield positive results.
