The Fiji Police Force has implemented movement restrictions in the towns of Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki due to rising water levels amid severe weather conditions. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that these precautions are essential to safeguard both public safety and infrastructure from potential damages and unlawful activities.
At present, four evacuation centers are operational in the Western Division, providing shelter to 226 individuals, with the expectation that more evacuees may arrive if rainfall continues. The Ba to Rakiraki highway has been closed, rendering Tavua Town inaccessible.
Authorities are actively evacuating residents from affected areas and are prepared to respond as the situation evolves.
This move reflects the diligence of the Fiji Police Force in prioritizing community safety and proactive measures during challenging times. As the response continues, it is a reminder of the importance of preparedness and support for those in affected regions.
