A flood warning has been issued for several low-lying and flood-prone areas in the Western Division, according to the Fiji Meteorological Service. Communities near the Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki Town, Yaqara River in Naseani, Nasivi River and Tavua Town Bridge in Tavua, Navala River, Toge River in Ba, and the FSC Mill River in Ba are at increased risk of flooding.

This warning is a result of a trough of low pressure that has been causing persistent cloud cover and rainfall across the Fiji Group. Near real-time data indicates that water levels are on the rise in the Rakiraki, Tavua, and Ba river systems, escalating the potential for flooding.

Authorities advise residents in these vulnerable areas to stay vigilant and closely monitor river levels as the heavy rain persists. Taking necessary precautions is crucial to ensure safety during this period of adverse weather conditions. The community’s proactive approach will play a vital role in mitigating risks associated with the rising water levels.
